Referring a Coach Candidate

If you know someone that would be a great Mento coach, please refer them! We will reach out to schedule an interview with them only if they are qualified, we have a current demand for their coach function (i.e., product coach, marketing coach, etc) and they can meet our 24-month, 6 member minimum commitment. More details below.

Who to Refer

Unsure of what makes a good coach candidate? Here are some of the criteria we evaluate our candidates on:

  • Coaching skills: Is this person certified? Do they have experience coaching? Would you want them to be your coach?
  • Marketability to members: Have they done high impact work for impressive brands? What stage companies have they worked for (i.e. - Series A → IPO ), would their role/titles appeal to a broad group of Mento members within their operational area?
  • Tenure / Seniority: we require a minimum of 15+ years of experience, and look for coaches who have operated at senior levels of a company (we tend to bring on coaches with 20+ years of significant leadership experience)
  • Willingness & availability to coach for Mento: This person is excited to take Coaching 101, brings a growth mindset to their own coaching practice, and wants to coach with us for at minimum 6 members over the next 24+ months (~3-4 hours a week) at $70/hour 😃

🌟 Please note: Mento historically has accepted only 0.5% of all applicants. Please let your candidates know that although many candidates have incredible backgrounds, not everyone will be selected to join the interview process.🌟

How to Refer

As of January 2025, Mento has an updated “always on” referral process. Whether you are a champion referrer or this is your first time, please follow this updated flow.

Submit one Mento Coach Referral Form for each candidate using your Mento email. We will ask you to provide more information about this person’s history, experience and why you think they would make a great Mento coach.

  • Work experience - LinkedIn profile link and optional resume if available
  • Operational expertise(s) - multi pick list that matches our operational areas
  • Coaching experience - certified, in-process, coaching experience
  • Availability - will they have the bandwidth to commit to coaching for the next 2 years+
  • How do you know this person? Why are you recommending them?

Within 2 weeks of your submission, our recruiting team will evaluate the candidate and determine next steps based on current business needs. There are 3 potential paths for candidates:

  1. Advance to an interview where we will first ask them to formally submit an application and schedule an interview with our team
  2. Join a waiting list (if they are a great candidate in an operational field that doesn’t have current demand)
  3. Decline their application if they are not a fit.

Within 3 weeks, you will receive an email with the status of your candidate referral.

🌟 Please note: The duration of the entire interview process will vary depending on if we are actively recruiting for a specific operational area. Regardless of the timing, we will evaluate referred candidates on a rolling basis and take action within 2 weeks.🌟

Referring a Mento Member to Interview to Coach

Please think carefully before encouraging or referring one of your members to coach at Mento — we love that you are such a stellar coach that your member is interested in also being a coach. However, great coaching is at the intersection of art and science which isn’t for everyone. When a member wants to coach with us, it can put us in a tough spot because their application process may impact their existing coaching relationship with you.

Before encouraging your member to apply for a coach position, please consider the criteria (above) we are screening for above and contemplate whether your member meets this baseline. If yes and you think they’d be a stellar coach - Great! Refer them. If not, please reach out to us if you need help having this conversation with your member. We find that emphasizing the time commitment (2-year contract, fully participating in Coaching 101, and working with 6+ members) typically reminds people that we take this seriously and you have to work hard to get where you are at Mento!

Our goal is to hire the best possible coaches with the current operational needs in mind without any bias from the source of their application.

If you successfully refer a coach (they receive an offer, complete 101 and are a Mento coach for 90 days), you’ll receive a $500 bonus for helping us grow our community!
