Each member is looking for something unique in their future coach. It could be a specific achievement or role you’ve had in your career, a phrase you chose to include that shows off your personality, warmth, or sense of humor, or the way you communicated who you coach and how you help them. Because we don’t know what exactly might stand out to a member, our advice is to include the following in your Mento bio to ensure a great match. Below is a guideline for those who would like some structure on how to write a good bio. Please feel free to take some creative liberties and make your bio reflect the best YOU!
Please write in first person
Paragraph 1 (3-4 sentences):
Introduce yourself as a coach. In 2-3 sentences, tell us about your offer as a coach:
- Who you best support as a coach (ICs, new managers, mid-senior leaders, executives, etc).
- Your coaching style/philosophy.
- If you have any coach training or certification, share that here, too.
Paragraph 2 (4-6 sentences):
Share your work experience and career accomplishments. One of Mento’s key differentiators is that our coaches are Coach-Operators: coaches who’ve had accomplished careers in tech, retail, professional services, and beyond and can coach our members better because of this experience. Let’s dive into your operating experience in Paragraph 2!
- Please make sure to include your top roles - can be a current role and/or former - and the companies at which you held those roles. (Incoming members love to see titles).
- If the company is not a household name, you can share a little bit about the industry and stage of the company.
- Provide an example or two of your most impressive career accomplishments in these roles and expertise you hold. This is the part to toot your own horn! Here are some example prompts:
- I was responsible for….
- I managed a team of x size, which worked on y…
- I played a pivotal role in achieving x in my role as y…
- I contributed to x, which led to y result…
- I hired/managed….
- I grew a team/company/org to…
- I helped raise…
- I drove x strategy….
- I oversaw…
- My team produced…
- If you attended Business school, hold a masters or higher degree, please share that here as well! (Oftentimes members are considering whether or not to pursue a promotion, make a career pivot, or go back to school so this is helpful context when selecting a coach.)
Paragraph 3 (2-3 sentences):
Conclude with a little bit about YOU when you aren’t coaching or at work.
What are your hobbies and passions? These small similarities and interests catch the eye and add a warm and personal touch to your badass bio! They can be the deciding factor in whether a member schedules a call with you. We want your personality to shine through.
