Billable Hours

All new coaches at Mento will receive $70/hour for the time they spend coaching their members. While standard sessions are 45 minutes, we encourage coaches to bill for the full hour so you can do some quick prep or post session work.

What time can I bill for?

  • Bill for time with members:
    • 30-minute chemistry call = .5 hours billed
    • Last minute cancellations and no-shows from your members.
      • Members are free to cancel and reschedule sessions up to 48 hours in advance of a session.
    • Standard 45-minute coaching session + 15 minutes prep/post work = 1 hour billed.
    • Executive Members have 1-hour sessions + 15 minutes prep/post work = $170 / session rate.
    • While members do have access to you in between your bi-weekly sessions via the chat and email function, we encourage you to keep this time to a minimum. Our standard members’ subscription covers two sessions a month. If you find yourself spending more than 2.5 hours a month on a certain member, please flag this to the coaching team via coachsupport@mento.co

Remember, one of the main differences between coaching and mentoring is that in a coaching partnership, the member is in the drivers seat and is the one doing the work. As a coach, you should not need to be spending significant time outside of the coaching session doing work for your member. If you find yourself doing so, reach out for support to Tara! This is a key indicator that you are slipping into the role of a mentor, not a coach.

Sometimes members ask for weekly sessions or monthly sessions. Your time is valuable and you should be billing Mento for the time you spend with your members whether it follows our standard meeting cadence or not! Just make sure to let us know if you and your member agree to meet more or less frequently so we can adjust billing on the member’s end as well.

What should I not bill for?

  • Please do not bill for bonuses as we will proactively add those to your invoices.
  • Last minute reschedules: It is up to you whether you allow your member to do a last-minute reschedule (within 48 hours of a session). Since they are only being billed for two sessions a month, please do not bill for both the original last-minute reschedule session and the new session. Typically coaches give their members a freebie for their first last-minute reschedule and then draw upon their coaching agreements as to whether this is behavior they are okay with as Coach moving forward. This is sometimes a tricky conversation and if you need help from Tara, just ask! You can also watch this video on how to address last minute reschedules with a member.
  • Activities related to your own professional development are not billable. These include but are not limited to:
    • Coaching 101
    • Coaching Bi-weeklies
    • Executive Breakthrough
    • Office Hours
    • 1:1 spot coaching with Tara
    • Any coaching tools training

These resources and opportunities are provided as a benefit to you to support your growth and development as a coach and, while they are encouraged, they are optional and therefore not billable.
